Encouraging and Partnering with STIM Students

Here are a few ways you can encourage the STIM student that you know or are related to! You might not be able to do everything, just pick a few from the suggestions below...

Pray:

Find out when each weekend is and ask your STIM student how you can pray for him or her.
Pray through out the weekend.
Once the weekend is over, pray that your friend or child will process and apply all that was learned.

Give Financially and Pray for their Finances:

Your STIM friend or child has lots of money to raise. Fundraising is often one of the most faith-building parts of the experience for your friend.

If you are able, support your friend or child financially.

Encourage them when they are discouraged about fundraising. Remind them of God’s faithfulness.

Provide them with contacts for fundraising . . . (Maybe you know others who might be interested in what your friend or child is doing this summer and would be willing to hear from them.)

A word to parents concerned about allowing their child to contact other family members or friends of the family: Remember that all your child is doing is informing folks of the opportunity they are participating in this summer and inviting them to join them in what ever way they feel they are able. There is no pressure or guilt involved. Please read the Biblical Perspectives on Fundraising Article for a fuller explanation of why we have students fundraise.

Ask questions:

Ask your friend or child lots of questions about what the STIM experience has been like:

What have they learned through fundraising?
What have they learned about themselves as they go through the training?
What have they learned about God?
What have they learned about the nations?
What have they learned about missions?
What are they most excited about as they anticipate the summer experience?
What are they most nervous or concerned about?

Join the STIM student in learning about the country where he or she will spend the summer.

Watch and read the news for any info about the country.
Pray for the country ( Operation World is a good resource).
Do some research and learn about the culture, politics, etc of the country.

While the STIM student is overseas:

Pray! (both for the STIMmer and the country)
Write letters (if they are accessible by snail mail or email.)

When the STIM student returns:

Download a letter:
for parents
for friends
